It can be extremely frustrating to struggle with weight. In a recent study conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, two-thirds of Australians are now estimated to be overweight. This is a staggering figure. Being overweight has been linked to a myriad of health issues such as hypertension, diabetes, skin conditions, cardiovascular disease, joint issues, infertility and mental health disorders.

 

I see a lot of people that come in after having spent a lot of time and money in a desperate attempt to lose weight. Many feel despondent and confused given all the conflicting information being disseminated on weight-loss.

Often it is not as simple as what someone eats that affects their weight. Many other important aspects come into play - digestion health; lifestyle factors; hormones; genetics and sleep all play a crucial role in how the body metabolises food and subsequently how it stores weight. This is why many people find it difficult to lose weight even when they may be trying their best to exercise, especially as they get older.

Working with a practitioner to develop a customised diet and lifestyle plan can therefore be very helpful.  In particular, when dealing with weight loss, I investigate aspects such as analysing and adjusting diet, finding fun and easy ways to grocery shop, assessing gut health, implementing effective exercise programs, reviewing and modifying lifestyle choices and assessing hormonal imbalances including assessing thyroid health. I also believe it is essential to discuss any emotional aspects that may also be hindering optimal weight and finding helpful tools to address these.

Ultimately, my goal is for a person to feel energised and fantastic in their own skin. The tailored weight loss programs are designed to help a person feel empowered and gain a better understanding of their body. It is geared to helping a person know how to eat well and nourish the body so that they are able to reach not only their optimal weight, but most importantly their optimal health.
