weight management

It can be extremely frustrating to struggle with weight. In a recent study conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, two-thirds of Australians are now estimated to be overweight. This is a staggering figure.

Being overweight has been linked to a myriad of health issues such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, joint issues, skin conditions, infertility and mental health disorders.

I see a lot of people that come in after having spent a lot of time and money in a desperate attempt to lose weight. Many feel despondent and confused given all the conflicting information being disseminated on weight-loss.

Often it is not as simple as what someone eats that affects their weight. Many other important aspects come into play - digestion health; lifestyle factors; hormones; genetics and sleep all play a crucial role in how the body metabolises food and subsequently how it stores weight. This is why many people find it difficult to lose weight even when they may be trying their best to exercise, especially as they get older.

Working with a practitioner to develop a customised diet and lifestyle plan can therefore be very helpful.  In particular, when dealing with weight loss, it is important to review diet including finding fun and easy ways to cook and grocery shop; assess gut health, implement effective exercise programs, review and modify lifestyle choices and hormonal imbalances. Emotional aspects can also be key in preventing a person achieve an optimal weight. Working with a compassionate practitioner that can share tools to gently work through these can be extremely beneficial.

Ultimately, my goal is for a person to feel energised and fantastic in their own skin.
